Five Elements of Indian Democracy
We
have been taught from the very beginning that democracy in India has four
pillars viz the Legislature, Executive, Judiciary and the Media. These four
have a huge responsibility on their shoulders. My question is, are they doing
justice with their job?
The people of India have a choice of
electing their political representatives. I agree, at least for judiciary we
need educated people and so people cannot decide on who should be the next
judge. Having said that, the fourth pillar is also somewhere losing its mind.
Instead of being the information carriers, the media houses have now become the
house of influencers. If people were given a choice to elect for media too, the
situation would have been a bit different. Only the firm-minded would be
allowed to report. Then I think the Godi and Non-Godi media show would have
been managed differently.
This situation is
worsening with each passing day as there exist fewer genuine media persons
and more the blackmailers. Believe me, I have been in media and have seen it in
and out, very closely.
The media today is divided, and
politically so. One organisation supports BJP while the other befriends
Congress and or AAP. The sad part is sometimes, the newsroom of media houses
are seen divided. Media is forgetting their job profile and is now only
influencing people. But that's politics I think, not media. The shocking part
is, we as citizens of this great civilization have now become the slaves of
these outlets and we tend to feast on whatever garbage they serve.
The funny part is, in this entire
circus, the clowns are people of India and the audience are these four pillars.
Surely, this was not part of the dream of our great freedom fighters.
Our Vedas talks about the five
elements that are essential for life. I think, if the people of this great
nation were also given a chance to manage the affairs of the country affront
and were made a part of this pillar as the fifth element, the situation would
have been bit different. However, people do contribute and government and other
outlets listen and respond here, but it is open to an exclusive class.
